Monastery of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk and the Miraculous Icon of St Anna
Our Parish supports St Tikhon’s Monastery with a monthly donation and so the needs of the parishioners are offered up daily at Divine Liturgy in the Monastery church. The miraculous Icon of St Anna resides at the Monastery and visits our parish annually (see Calendar and Events). The Icon streams Holy Myrrh and is miraculous. Support Persecuted Christians Worldwide
There is no doubt that persecution of Christians around the world is increasing rapidly.
Back in 1985, when communism was the main threat to Christianity, I was in Hong Kong as part of a trip I was making around the world and I got in touch with an organization called ‘Open Doors’ founded by Brother Andrew. I signed up for a journey from Hong Kong to Shanghai to smuggle Bibles into Communist China. Ask me after Liturgy and I’ll tell you the whole story! Open Doors is still very active today supporting and helping Christians suffering persecution for their faith in Christ. You can read Brother Andrew’s story here: https://www.opendoorsusa.org/about-us/history/brother-andrews-story/

Bravo Ministries Burundi
My Canadian cousin Allison Blair, after working for 10 years amongst those who had suffered under the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia, moved to Africa in 1994. Here is her recent description of her work at the moment:
In Burundi’s capital, Bujumbura, “BRAVO” offers a safe place and daily spiritual food as well as training, counselling and conflict resolution to marginalised young people.
Established in our own handicrafts workshop, Coordinator Alli BLAIR (in the African Great Lakes Region since 1994), Administrator Mélyse and Tailor Jean-Paul work with a dozen on the core production team. Periodically we take in young trainees and many graduates have been released from the bondage of alcohol and prostitution as they spend time in praise and Bible study in a loving environment learning new skills. From 3 countries in the region, girls include victims of war, poverty, witchcraft, prostitution, child rape, ex-prisoners, AIDS’ widows and those struggling with other serious social and physical challenges. We also do disaster response and assisted 60 families for several months after dramatic floods destroyed an entire village north of the capital taking many lives.
Yet to be realised is a BRAVO strategy to minimise this exploitation of girls, through a nationwide network.
